Planning the holiday meal is a great undertaking. Planning the perfect menu for your guests can be tricky and actually getting the food prepared takes organization and imagination. Tackling these tasks is only half of the battle. Presentation is equally as important and requires additional thought. Plopping all of the dishes down on the dinner table is the first step but what about the actual plate settings and decor? This is where your time and talent gets center stage and will delight your friends and family.

So where do you get started in deciding what the perfect table decor will be? Having a theme makes decisions much easier. Whether you are having a small or large crowd, adding special touches with plates, napkins, candles and other seasonal decorations will showcase your marvelous food and have everyone raving over the festive mood you created with your table decor.

Themes can be very traditional or you can step out and create your own feel for the season. It doesn’t have to be expensive either. Using natural elements in your own yard such as displays of pine cones, greenery from yard shrubs and flowers gives an automatic warmth to your room. If you want to appeal to the youth of your guests go for a reindeer or Santa theme for your Christmas table. Use the traditional red and green or branch out with metallic silver and golds mixed with blue or purple. The combinations are endless but keeping it to three main colors is best.

Once you have decided on a theme, the decor becomes much easier.  In addition, setting the table flatware properly, using table runners and cloth napkins and making creative place cards for each guest will help pull all of your items together and make each guest feel special. It also gives a professional and elegant final touch.
